Eastern Iowa REC Youth Tour is an enriching educational program that gives high school students the opportunity to experience democracy in action. Each year, selected students embark on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where they explore historic sites, visit national monuments, and engage with legislators on Capitol Hill.

During the trip, participants gain firsthand insight into the political process, the role of electric cooperatives, and leadership development.

Win a week-long trip to Washington, D.C.

A group of high school students sponsored by Iowa’s locally owned electric cooperatives, including one from Eastern Iowa REC, travel to Washington, D.C. each summer as part of the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. The Iowa students will join other student leaders from across the nation to learn more about cooperatives, U.S. history and government.

Eastern Iowa REC sponsora an opportunity for a high school sophomore or junior attending school within the Cooperative’s service territory to be part of Youth Tour program.

Students will be asked to complete an application, have a consent form signed by their parents or legal guardian and answer a series of essay questions. Winners will be selected based on their answers to the essay questions, participation in extra curricular activities and community service.
