STEAM Grant helps take learning to the next level in Mrs. Nash's classroom!

Mrs. Kerri Nash’s first graders at the TIpton Elementary School had a surprise waiting for them in the back of their classroom all day on Friday. When the grand reveal came she showed them more than 20 brand new STEAM Bin resources. The bins vary from magnetic tiles to working small motors kits. These kits are the result of an extra effort made by Mrs. Nash and a grant from Eastern Iowa Light and Power Cooperative STEAM Program.

The program highlights the value of education and the need classrooms have for additional funding. Eastern Iowa Light and Power Cooperative said this “By embracing Cooperative Principle #5: Education, Training, and Information, we have established our STEAM Grant program to provide funding for projects and initiatives at our local schools.”

The unveiling of the new kits were met with cheers of excitement from the students, and lots of questions. Nash’s class spent the afternoon creating and building with the new materials with more excitement about what they will create next time. These types of learning opportunities are very beneficial for students and can introduce them to subjects outside of the typical learning environment to grow each day!
