Meet the Eastern Iowa Light & Power Cooperative Board

The Cooperative’s service territory is divided into five districts with three directors elected from each district. All directors are Cooperative members who are elected by the fellow members to serve on the board.  Each director serves a three-year term.

Kathy Wunderlich is a director representing District 5 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2013. She lives northeast of Danville in Des Moines County with her husband, Gary. The couple have three children and four grandchildren. Wunderlich grew up in Des Moines County and attended Burlington Community Schools and the University of Northern Iowa. Wunderlich is a Credentialed Cooperative Director and has earned the Board Leadership Credential and Director Gold Credential. She is a retired business owner who enjoys traveling, boating, fishing, side-by-side trail rides and activities with her grandchildren.

Ken Purdy is a director representing District 4 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2012. He lives west of Columbus Jct. Purdy graduated from Wapello High School and holds a Masters Degree in mathematical statistics from the University of Iowa. Purdy is a Credentialed Cooperative Director and has earned the Board Leadership Credential and Director Gold Credential. He is a retired high school educator and coach and is a member of the Columbus Community Club. He enjoys flying, water skiing, riding Segways and playing cards and pickleball.

Kurt Olson is a director representing District 1 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2019. He lives near Grand Mound, in Grant Township, Clinton County. He has two children. Olson grew up on his family farm and graduated from Calamus High School and Iowa State University. He owns and operates a grain and livestock farm. Olson is a Credentialed Cooperative Director and has earned the Board Leadership Credential. He is a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau, Clinton County Republicans, National Rifle Association, Clinton County Cattlemen and Clinton County Sportsman Club. He enjoys Iowa State athletics, motorcycling, traveling, agriculture and his children's activities.

Michael Bixler is a director representing District 2 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2020. He lives northwest of Clarence in Dayton Township, Cedar County with his wife, Deb. The couple have three children and six grandchildren. Bixler grew up on a family farm and graduated from Clarence-Lowden High School. He is a sixth generation farmer and former North Cedar High School girls basketball coach who won a state championship in 2000 and was named Class 2A Coach of the Year. He is President of the Cedar County Historical Society, a member of the Cedar County Board of Supervisors and a member of the U.C.C. Church in Clarence. Bixler enjoys history and supporting the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes.

Henry Bentley is a director representing District 3 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2022. He lives near Durant in Cedar County with his wife, Beverly. The couple have three children and two grandchildren. Bentley was born and raised in Clinton. He attended Clinton Community College and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago. Bentley owned and operated Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton and Durant for 30 years. Bentley is a Credentialed Cooperative Director. He is a member of St. Mary's Church in Wilton, Iowa Funeral Director's Association, National Funeral Director's Association and is a trustee of the Leland Smith Foundation.

Joel Carstensen is a director representing District 1 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2008. He lives south of Charlotte in Washington Township, Clinton County with his wife Peggy. The couple have four children and five grandchildren. Carstensen grew up south of Charlotte on a family farm and graduated from Northeast High School before attending Iowa State University. He is a retired farmer. Carstensen is a Credentialed Cooperative Director and has earned the Board Leadership Credential and Director Gold Credential. He enjoys bowling, golfing and helping around the farm.

Glenn McCulloh is a director representing District 1 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 1985. He lives in DeWitt and has a meter on a farm east of DeWitt. McCulloh and his wife, LaVonne, have four children and two stepchildren. McCulloh grew up on a family farm 12 miles south of DeWitt and graduated from DeWitt High School. He is a retired farmer and a member of the DeWitt Methodist Church, Lions Club and a past director of the Iowa Cattlemen.

Michael Moes is a director representing District 2 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2018. He lives north of Tipton in Red Oak Township, Cedar County with his wife, Elaine. The couple have three children and four grandchildren. Moes is a graduate of Tipton High School and Iowa State University. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and is a retired farmer. Moes is a member of the Matthews Memorial Airport Committee, Cedar County Flying Club, Trinity Lutheran Church and the Citizen Bank Board. He enjoys flying.

Bill Petersen is a director representing District 3 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2012. He lives south of Durant in Muscatine County and has three children and four grandchildren. Petersen attended the one-room Melpine School before graduating from Muscatine High School, Muscatine Community College and Iowa State University.  Petersen farms and is a member of the White Pigeon Mutual Insurance Board of Directors, Farm Bureau and Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoys activities with his grandchildren, raising cattle and supporting the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

Mike Shuger is a director representing District 3 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 1993. He lives northeast of Wilton with his wife, Janice. The couple have two children and three grandchildren. Shuger grew up a family farm and attended Wilton Lutheran School before graduating from Wilton High School and the American Institute of Business. Shuger is a Credentialed Cooperative Director and has earned the Board Leadership Credential. Shuger is a former member of the Wilton Chamber of Commerce and Wilton Development Corporation. He is a retired farmer and realtor.

Tom Hotz is a director representing District 4 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2004. He lives north of Lone Tree in Freemont Township, Johnson County with his wife, Jane The couple have two children and four grandchildren. Hotz grew up in Lone Tree and is a graduate of Iowa State University. Hotz is a Credentialed Cooperative Director. He farms, raising corn and beans, and feeds and finishes cattle. He is a former Pioneer salesman and director of the Beef Industry Council. Hotz is a member of the Lions Club and Iowa Cattlemen's Association. He enjoys hunting, fishing, playing cards, ISU and Iowa football and basketball and watching grandchildren's activities.

Robert Schneider is a director representing District 4 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2023. He lives in rural Riverside, Washington County with his wife Lois. The couple have eight children. Schneider grew up in Riverside and graduated Highland High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force, training in telecommunications. After his military service, he worked for Wellman Telephone and Sharon Telephone. Schneider has served on the Mid-Prairie and Highland school boards, the Grant Wood AEA board and the Riverside City Council.

Gary Kester is a director representing District 5 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2012. He lives south of Mediapolis in Benton Township, Des Moines County with his wife, Nancy. The couple have three children. Kester graduated from Mediapolis High School, Southeastern Community College and Iowa Wesleyan University. Kester is a Credentialed Cooperative Director and has earned the Board Leadership Credential and Director Gold Credential. He farms and is a former coach at Mediapolis High School. He represents Eastern Iowa Light & Power Cooperative on the Central Iowa Power Cooperative board of directors where he is chairperson of their legislative committee. Kester is also a member of Hope Haven Area Development, Benton Township Clerk, Mediapolis Fire and Ambulance and Des Moines County Cattlemen.

Brad Weiss is a director representing District 5 and was elected to the Cooperative Board of Directors in 2023. He lives near Burlington in Benton Township, Des Moines County with his wife Juli. The couple have one child. Weiss grew up in rural Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School, Southeastern Community College and Western Illinois University. He is a retired businessman and a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Club, Carthage Lake Club and various outdoor and conservation organizations. Weiss enjoys golfing, boating, traveling and spending time with his family at their cabin on the Mississippi River.
